Fossil's is Keenan's first iteration and exploration in the relationship between concrete and naturally weathered pieces of wood. The work contrasts the two materials (concrete & wood), their formality (organic & geometric), by intersecting them into a singular form. The concrete is a contemporary man made version of stone, the rigid geometric block of concrete, is penetrated by the organic wooden branch constricting and imprisoning the wood, as if it were a fossil. This is emphasised through the branches exposure to the natures elements, leaving behind cracks and qualities of time and decay.
This interaction between materials though seemingly simple, evokes an impactful response, although relatively small in size, the form demands respect and space — rich in presence.
